The Comparison of the "Muazzin" narrative written by Attar from the aspect of mystical commentary of Kashf al- Asrar Meybodi and Sheikh San'an

Abstract

Rashid al-Din Meybodi completed the great commentary book of Kashf al-Asrar and oddat al-abrar in 520 AH. This work Includes a complete course of translation, interpretation and gloss of the Holy Quran verses. The fourth volume of Kashf al-Asrar, deals with a narrative of a Muezzin, who involved in the love of a Christian lady, and thereafter, he lost his all reputation and respect. It seems that this mystic narrative is one of the Attar Neishaburi's sources (537-627) in Sheikh San'an narrative, in the couple-poems of Manteghotteir. Attar has developed this mythological allegorical narrative and has recreated it in another way. The main axis in the story of Sheikh San'an and the narrative of the Muazzin in Kashf al-Asrar, is the idolatry anecdote of the aged devout to a Christian girl. Both characters of these two stories see a Christian, beautiful and courageous girl who has robbed their hearts and intelligence, as they burrow their cloak and hang it, they lick the lips to the wine with the beloved command, and act against their whole religious laws and beliefs according to the wishes of the girl. There is a kind of kinship between these two narratives, and the present article comparatively tries to study these two mystical narratives.
