Abstract

The objective of the present research is to analyze the divergence of the world and the hereafter and examine the prevention of reducing the convergence of these two concepts in Rumi's Masnavi. This research is fundamental in type and applied in terms of purpose, conducted using thematic analysis. The research data, after purposive sampling, were coded and analyzed in three stages, followed by the extraction of the thematic network. Rumi's Masnavi serves as the research community, with other sources aligned with the objective serving as supplementary resources. The results of the research are categorized into five major categories: "The Nature of the World," "The Value Nature of the World," "The Anti-Value Nature of the World," and "The Divergence of the World from the Hereafter and its Convergence with it." The thematic network elucidates Rumi's perspective on the world and its manifestations in contrast to the concept of the hereafter. The findings indicate that Rumi, while valuing the world as a path to perfection and the sacred realm, emphasizes the necessity of distinguishing between these two domains and cautions against reducing afterlife values to worldly matters and the divergence of these two realms. This study, by examining the verses of the Masnavi, demonstrates how rationality, tolerance, avoidance of prejudice, and blind imitation, as worldly manifestations, interact with spirituality and afterlife values but should never replace them. Thus, Rumi, by presenting a dual interpretation of the world and the hereafter, invites readers to balance and reflect on the meaning of life and clarifies that a negative approach to the world causes divergence between the world and the hereafter, while a hierarchical approach to the world prevents the reduction of convergence between the world and the hereafter.
